Blau - watering can/sculptural object
This product was inspired by the appalling nature of the conventional watering cans, and the engineering that went into B&O's premium automobile audio systems, specifically the motorized acoustic lens housings.
In my opinion, the conventional watering cans are an eyesore in most cases. People are generally not proudly displaying them in the middle of their living rooms. I decided to change this. I wanted to create a conversation piece, a sculptural object which hides its identity until the physical interaction between it and the user occurs.
When people see this product for the first time, their curiosity takes over, and they are naturally trying to discover what this object is and what secrets it holds. During the exploration of this product people understand that there has to be a way to open it, after all, it's still a box...
The only element that's accessible to the user is the wooden part, the geometry on the top surface of this piece allows for only one possible move: push the wooden piece towards the edge. The rest is magic:
This product was designed for one of my Industrial Design Studio classes in Fall 2018 - project duration was 4 weeks.
